Using The Level 2 Run-Out Table System Designed by Sarir Company to Produce DP780 Dual-Phase Steel
The production of advanced DP780 steel for the first time in the country was a milestone in the Iranian steel industry, achieved through the efforts of Saba Steel Complex and the use of Level 2 automation technology designed by Sarir Company. This strategic grade is used in the automotive industry to manufacture safe, lightweight, and durable parts, and its production requires precise control of the chemical composition and a special temperature profile; a process that was previously only done manually and with many limitations.
Based on engineering experience and state-of-the-art knowledge, Sarir Company conducted a detailed analytical modeling of the cooling table of Saba Steel’s continuous hot rolling zone and created an innovative system by applying artificial intelligence algorithms and designing advanced control functions on a level 2 automation platform. This system provided the ability to precisely and automatically adjust the flow of showers of the cooling table and enabled Saba Steel’s metallurgical engineers to implement the complex temperature profiles required for specific grades, such as DP780, with exemplary accuracy.
According to Mohsen Hassanzadeh, an expert at the Saba Steel Technical Office, before the start of production, the sheet cooling conditions were simulated using software designed in a research project by Sarir Company, and the results were fully consistent with the production goals. Also, Rasoul Salehi, head of automation of hot rolling systems, considered this success to be the result of constructive interaction and cooperation with domestic knowledge-based companies.
Arash Hajipour, Technology Manager at Saba Steel, also explained the importance of this achievement, saying: "Grade DP780 is at the cutting edge of the world's steelmaking knowledge, and only a few factories in the world can produce it. In addition to its strategic value, this product plays an important role in improving the quality and safety of automotive industry products, and its production is an important step in completing the product portfolio and reducing the country's dependence on imports."
DP780 dual-phase steel is a high-strength, low-carbon grade with a microstructure consisting of ferrite and martensite phases. This combination combines high tensile strength with good ductility, and is therefore widely used in the automotive industry, especially in the manufacture of major vehicle structures such as chassis and pillars. This steel can prevent severe deformation of the passenger compartment in accidents by absorbing impact energy and increasing vehicle safety; at the same time, it helps improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions by reducing vehicle weight.
Today, DP780 dual-phase steel is produced at Saba Steel to international standards, and this would not have been possible without the contribution of advanced technology designed by Sarir Company. This collaboration is a successful example of the synergy of the engineering capabilities of large industries and the innovation of domestic knowledge-based companies, which is an important step towards industrial self-sufficiency and improving Iran's position in the global steel market.
